Dr. Alison Criscitiello presents: "Mount Logan and Axel Heiberg Island Ice Coring Expeditions"
Join us for this informative and entertaining Calgary Explorers Club Pub Night Presentation Thursday February 19th, 2026 at the Bowness Ratepayers Scout Hall
Dr. Criscitiello is a world-renowned ice core scientist and glaciologist, an advocate for gender equity in the sciences, a mother, and a high-altitude mountaineer. She is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Canadian Ice Core Lab at the University of Alberta, co-founder of Girls on Ice Canada*, and the recipient of the first PhD in glaciology ever conferred by MIT.
Her scientific work has taken her to ice caps across the globe — from Antarctica and Greenland to the Canadian High Arctic — including the summit of Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan. Through ice-core chemistry, Dr. Criscitiello reconstructs the history of climate and glaciers in polar and high-alpine regions, documenting environmental change in landscapes now under extreme threat from climate change.
Dr. Criscitiello is a gifted storyteller. Her work has appeared in major film, print, and television projects, and her article Contraindications won a Banff Mountain Book Competition award in 2018.
