Follow in the footsteps of the explorers who first traveled to Everest with our Guide and Everest Summiteer Byron Smith. Trekkers will enjoy this 16 day trek through the Khumbu region of Nepal. Our journey starts with an adventurous plane ride to Lukla then follows the trail to Namche Bazaar. From there we will go through many little villages as we gain altitude and walk through the Khumbu Valley.If all goes to plan we will arrive at Mont Everest's Base Camp on Day 11 of our trek...with luck on the following day we will watch the sunrise from Kalapathar.

As guests in the homes of Sherpa guides along the way, we listen to their first- person tales of scaling summits of this fascinating region. This is the ultimate trek to the ultimate mountain with knowledgeable guides who have tremendous experience in the region.

Our Guide: Very Experienced

Byron Smith has been to the Khumbu region dozens of times...2 times to attempt to climb Mount Everest! Ultimately Byron was successful of summitting in May 2000. Byron has dedicated a substantial amount of time as a tireless fundraiser for the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation in support of The Sherpa People of Nepal. Byron also has the distinction of climbing to the top of the highest mountains on all seven continents. Mount Everest Basecamp Cultural Trek Itinerary –

Spring and Fall Daily trek times will be determined based on Trekkers buildup of consecutive daily hiking at home and your ability to acclimatize on the trek. An average daily trek will be 5 to 6 hours a day, some more, some less.

Day 1, Arrive Kathmandu

If possible, book your flight to arrive in the  morning, and,  if possible take a seat on the  right side of the plane in order to get an opportunity to see Mount Everest looming out of the clouds!  Our Nepal Agents will meet you at the airport to take you to a Hand-Crafted Boutique Hotel in the heart of Thamel called Nepali Ghar. Get settled into your room, shower, rest, and hydrating fills out the remainder of the day.

Day 2 - Morning Team Meeting

Meet your fellow Trekkers and our Nepal Trekking Agency Partner.  Meet our Sherpa Guides and review contingency options available...we will also review Cultural Do’s and Dont's! Then it's off to world famous Thamel for last minute purchases. We will  review your Trekking gear  and then you'll have the opportunity for last minute  packing of your duffle and your daily trekking gear into your 30 to 40 litre day pack.

Day 3 - Breakfast

Transport to airport for flight into World famous Lukla Airport...altitude 9200 ft. Tea at Paradise Lodge is a welcome delight... Trek to Phakding.

Day 4 -  Trek to Namche Bazaar 11,286 ft

We will trek on the High Suspension Bridge over the Dhude Kosi River. Part of the  way up the Namche Hill you may be able to view Mount Everest from afar!

Day 5 -  Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Visit the Sherpa Cultural Museum, Visit Tenzing Norgay Museum...View Mount Everest from this location, Visit the Café and bakery...yum!

Day 6 -  Trek to Khumjung and Kunde 13,025 ft

Tea at Everest View Hotel Visit Khunde Hospital, Visit Khumjung Gompa, Visit Khumjung School...

Day 7 -  Trek to Tengboche 12,687 ft

View the Flowering Rhododendron flowers! Visit the Re- forestation Seeding station... a Canadian initiative. Visit Tengboche Monastery and the Mani Rimdu festival. View Mount Everest again! 

Day 8 -  Trek to Dingboche 14, 469 ft

Visit the Deboche Nunery. Keep a watchful eye for Musk Deer and Himalayan Tahr!

Day 9 -  Possible additional acclimatization day in Dingboche

Hike up to Chukhung.  Light Hike up to a beautiful Valley view point

Day 10 -  Dingboche to Lobuche

Passing through Dusa viewing the Summer Yak Pastures, Stone wall corrals, and stone huts

Day 11 -  Lobuche to Gorak Shep and Mount Everest Basecamp 17,500 ft

(Springtime Trek Overnighting at Basecamp is Available for additional fee)

Day 12 -  Option to hike up Kalapthar 18,500 ft...beautiful views!
