September 7th to 10th 2017
This trek is a challenging 48 to 54 km adventure through some of the most beautiful terrain in the Canadian Rockies. It begins at the Elbow Lake trailhead on the Kananaskis highway North of Highwood Pass. It consists of 4 full days on the trail with 3 nights camping. Elevation gain is 540 metres with 740 metres descent. Day one involves moderate hiking on good trails to our first campsite at Rae Lake with the option to visit Tombstone Lake. Both lakes offer excellent fishing. Day two is more challenging with difficult terrain and a long ascent to Rickters Pass, where we will have our ridgeline campsite. Stunning views of Mist Ridge and Storm Mt... Day three involves a long ridge walk along Mist Ridge with an ascent of the North and South summits followed by some challenging terrain to Picklejar Lakes (long day). Our campsite is along the lake shore, camp fire as in all the sites and excellent fishing as well. Day four is a long scenic descent on an excellent trail to our pickup at Picklejar Lakes trailhead on the Kananaskis Highway.
This trip requires the same equipment as the Mt. Howard trek with the exception of the food. You will need to pack 3 dinners, 3 breakfasts and 4 lunches with appropriate drinks and snacks.
