Ascent of Mt. Howard 2778 metres June 16th-18th 2017, 3 days 2 nights, 32-35 kms, 1050 metres ascending with 920 metres descending. Moderate difficulty with good fitness level required. Gear required; waterproof hiking boots with gaitors, waterproof & breathable jacket and pants, down parka, sleeping bag good to -10 C, sleeping pad, trekking poles, sunglasses, water bottles, gloves, mitts, warm hat, backpack, headlamp, knife, cup, bowl, spoon, food for 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches plus snacks and drinks (coffee, tea, juice crystals etc.) 4 persons minimum - 8 maximum...
Mt. Howard is located in the Fischer Range of Southern Alberta approx.1 hour SW of Calgary.. near the Northern end of Nahahi Ridge just West of Compression Ridge.
Day 1 has a 12 km approach that follows the flood plain of Canyon Creek to a campsite just below the N. ridge of Mt. Howard. The site has fresh water, a large fire pit and a challenging climb to a beautiful cave 200 metres above.
